Patras is a port city in western Greece, known for its rich history, including its role in ancient times and as the birthplace of Saint Andrew. It hosts the famous Patras Carnival, has a prominent university, and boasts attractions like the Roman Odeon, Saint Andrew’s Church, and vibrant nightlife. The city is a key economic hub, with strong connections to Italy via its port.

About Patras

What to do in Patras: For the ones interested in history - visit the 6th century Byzantine Castle and ancient Roman Odeon - still used for theatrical and musical performances like ancient Greek comedies and tragedies. A few kilometers away from the city centre you will find the Archeological museum with local findings from the Mycenean to the Late Roman era.

Take a guided tour at Achaia Claus - the oldest winery in Greece.

Locals love to hang out at the cafes on Riga Fereou and Agiou Nikolaou pedestrian streets. Try the most famous greek iced coffees like Freddo espresso, Freddo Capuccino or old school Frappe. Choose Marina Patras if you want to take a coffee or drink by the sea while watching the sunset behind the docked yachts.

On the central square Georgiou I you will find the most famous and delicious ice cream shops like Edelvais, Lotsares and Caravel.

Walk on Georkostopoulou street and Ifaistou street during the evening and share a big grill mix or mezedes at one of the mezedopoleia (small traditional restaurants). Live music is usually present in some of the restaurants.

Summer is for Rio and Vrachneika, two seaside areas at the city outskirts. In Vrachneika you will find plenty of restaurants that serve sea food as well as many cozy bars by the sea side. For more intense nightlife we recommend Rio and its many seaside nightclubs, to dance the night away! Brides favorite: Distinto bar restaurant...

Staying in Patras: One of Greece's biggest cities, you will have several options to choose from. Check Booking.com or Airbnb or Home to Go but there are several options if you search the web.

Along the Seaside from Patras to Lakkopetra and further up the coast there are beachside hotels and villas for rent.

When it comes to safety there are no areas that we discourage you to live at.

There is no beach available in the city itself. You need to travel 15-20 minutes outside the city limits. We highly recommend a visit to Kalogria Beach (Παραλία Καλόγριας) or Gianiskari Beach (Παραλία Γιανισκάρι) however they are a bit further from the city.

Getting around in Patras region: KTEL Buses are the most common way of public transportation. Tickets can be bought at the bus station (KTEL  Achaias), or inside the bus (take a seat and someone will come to you). Small cash to pay for tickets. Expect taxis to only accept cash - and be costly unless you split with friends.
